What do Marketing Consultants Do?

by | Apr 17, 2023

Marketing consultants provide expert advice and guidance to businesses in order to help them achieve their marketing and sales goals. They analyze market trends and consumer behavior, identify target audiences, and develop marketing strategies. Tactics can include a gamut of recommendations: brand refresh, advertising, social media, mass awareness, public relations, digital campaigns, influencer marketing and sales promotions. They often do audits to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing efforts and make recommendations for improvement.

They conduct market and competitor research, analyze data, and make recommendations based on those findings. Ultimately, their main objective is to give the business owner a roadmap to help them reach their goals. The consultants don’t typically do the execution of the plan–that is done by the business’ internal marketing team, an agency, or freelancers.

How much do marketing consultants charge?

The cost of marketing consulting services varies widely depending on the size and complexity of the business, the experience and qualifications of the consultant, and the location and industry in which they operate. On average, marketing consultants may charge anywhere from $75 to $200 per hour, while some may charge a flat fee for a specific project. Some consultants may also offer packages that include a set number of hours or services for a discounted rate. It’s important to understand the scope of work and expectations before agreeing on the cost with a consultant.

Types of Business Consultants

There are many different types of business consultants, each with their own area of expertise. Some of the most common types include:

  • Management consultants: Help organizations improve their overall performance and competitiveness by analyzing their operations, systems, and processes and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Financial consultants: Provide advice on financial management, investment strategies, and budgeting to help organizations maximize their financial resources and achieve their financial goals.
  • Marketing consultants: Help organizations improve their marketing strategies and plans to increase sales and achieve their business goals.
  • Human resources consultants: Provide advice and support on HR-related issues such as talent management, employee relations, and compliance with labor laws.
  • IT consultants: Help organizations improve their technology systems, processes, and operations to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance.
  • Strategic consultants: Help organizations develop and implement long-term strategies to achieve their goals and grow their businesses.
  • Operational consultants: Help organizations improve their operational processes and systems to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance.

These are just a few examples of the many different types of business consultants. The specific type of consultant that a business needs will depend on its unique goals, challenges, and needs.
